The first 3 miles past the ford are as level as walking along a stream can be, with no particular hazards except for the usual numerous deadfalls. 5-mile point, Fall Creek cascades 30 feet over a ledge to a pool, which makes a perfect rest stop or even a quick shower stop. Several other small streams are crossed along this pathway, some being easier to negotiate than others.

In some cases, they were listed simply because the exclusion would have been noticed and considered an oversight (but only by those who had never hiked them). In the cases where we were less than enthusiastic about a particular trail, we have tried to be honest about its shortcomings. The trails in this book demonstrate the enormous diversity in the state, from Little River Canyon's wildly beautiful but difficult boulder scrambling in north Alabama, to the softer, swamplike scenic strolls of the Conecuh National Forest on the southern border.
