Powell Rutgers University, USA ABSTRACT Mathematics teaching materials has gone through many changes since the founding of the People’s Republic of China. This chapter discusses issues related to the development of mathematics curriculum and mathematics teaching materials between 1950 and 2000, including the role of textbooks in mathematics education, guiding principles in content selection, design of textbook structure, organization of the mathematics contents, compilation process, field testing, as well as the significant changes at different times during this period.
The results of long-term research show the trajectories to promote young children to learn “big math,” respond to the issues of what math in preschool should be, and how teaching affect young children’s development of logical-math.
